Richard Hawkins

Richard Hawkins

Nationality : Great Britain (UK)
Date Joined01 Mar 2008
Years at Club
Head of human performance, Richard Hawkins came to United in March 2008, having previously occupied roles with the Football Association and West Bromwich Albion.

After seven years of studying a degree, Masters and Phd in Sports Science at Loughborough University - a year ahead of head fitness coach Tony Strudwick - Hawkins became deputy head of Sports Science with the FA, based at Lilleshall.
There he set up a sports science programme for the England international teams, developed research linked in with clubs and Academies, and provided coaching education over the course of eight years.
In early 2005, Richard joined Bryan Robson's West Brom as conditioning coach. He spent two seasons at The Hawthorns before following Robson to Sheffield United at the beginning of the 2007/08 season. His role with the Blades was short-lived, and a move to United beckoned before the season's end.
The move meant a reunion with Strudwick from their university days, and also time spent together at the FA. Hawkins was familiar with a number of United's backroom staff, which allowed him to quickly settle at Carrington, where the club's sports science department was developing under Strudwick's leadership.

David Moyes

David Moyes

Nationality: Scottish
Manager From:01 Jul 2013
Years as Manager: 0
David Moyes is the man charged with following Sir Alex Ferguson’s 26-and-a-half-year tenancy as manager of Manchester United.
Announced as Sir Alex’s successor on 9 May 2013, Moyes led Everton in the 11 years prior to his appointment at Old Trafford and officially took the Reds’ reins on 1 July 2013.
Moyes, a Glaswegian who enjoyed a 19-year playing career before devoting himself solely to management, never steered the Toffees to silverware but won plenty of admirers for his ability to consistently over-achieve with limited resource.
In fact, Moyes has won the League
Managers’ Association’s Manager of the Year award – voted for by his fellow football bosses – on three occasions: in 2003, 2005 and 2009. Sir Alex (four awards) is the only man to have collected the honour as many times.
As Sir Alex once said admiringly: “David has had to contend with not having a strong financial structure. He has had to get the best out of the players he has had available and he has done an amazing job.
Over the years, Moyes locked horns with Ferguson on 24 occasions and, like most managers who took on Sir Alex, lost more often than he won. In fact, the
Toffees boss triumphed just three times after 90 minutes (and once at Wembley on penalties in the 2009 FA Cup semi-final).
However, he did mastermind one of the greatest comebacks achieved by an away team at Old Trafford in recent years when Everton rallied from 4-2 down with seven minutes remaining to draw 4-4 in April 2012.
There was a similar outcome at Goodison Park in September 2010 when Moyes' men, seemingly beaten by United with the score at 3-1 going into injury time, grabbed two last-gasp goals to draw 3-3.
This ability to eke out every last drop of effort from
his players, until well beyond the 90th minute, should stand him in good stead at a club where dramatic late triumphs are part of the fabric.
It was at Preston North End, the last of seven clubs in Moyes’ playing career, where he first dipped his toes into management, as player-manager at the age of 35.
At that point, in January 1998, the Lancashire club were in danger of dropping down to the fourth tier of English football. Barely two years later, Moyes guided North End to the 1999/2000 Division Two title, clear of regional rivals Burnley by seven points.
The following season, with almost the same squad, Moyes’ Preston came within a whisker of promotion to the Premier League. That attracted Everton’s attention and Moyes moved to Merseyside in March 2002.
Well-organised and disciplined, Moyes’ teams tend to echo his own traits. He also boasts an excellent record against the “modern” Manchester City, having won seven and drawn one of his 10 meetings with them since Sheikh Mansour's takeover in early 2008/09.
This sequence includes two doubles – victories at home and away in the same season – and four
consecutive wins at Goodison Park. The last of these, 2-0 on 16 March 2013, helped United go 15 points clear in the title race as the Reds defeated Reading 1-0 later that day.
There’s no question Moyes has huge shoes to fill at Old Trafford. But in an era when everybody in football seems to crave quick wins, his appointment is a victory for common sense and stability. United are in safe hands.

Often described as the more naturally-gifted Da Silva sibling, Fabio looks set to enjoy a vibrant future at Manchester United.

The young Brazilian was originally spotted in 2005 by Reds scout Les Kershaw whilst playing for Fluminense in a Hong Kong youth tournament, later moving to Old Trafford in July 2008.
Upon his arrival, the Brazilian and twin brother Rafael soon earned praise from manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who said:"They just love playing. They're quick and they're determined. I think they're both excellent footballers, I really do."

The pair soon appeared in a pre-season friendly
against Peterborough a month after signing and, as a result, Rafael quickly garnered more first team opportunities while Fabio waited for his opportunity behind the impossibly consistent Patrice Evra.
Despite suffering from a spate of injuries and finding his route to the first team blocked, Fabio's patience reaped rewards when he pinned down a regular starting berth in early 2011.

Having bagged his first goals for the Reds in wins over Wigan and Arsenal, the young Brazilian became a regular at right-back and went on to start the UEFA Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in Rome.

International:Chile U23
Angelo Henriquez is a promising young centre-forward, signed by Manchester United as an 18-year-old from Universidad de Chile in the summer of 2012.
The Santiago-born striker is renowned for lethal finishing in front of goal and was hailed by FourFourTwo magazine as one of the five best young players in the world following his performances at the 2011 South American U-17 championship.
Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United were aware of Henriquez long before then, however. In fact, he first came to Manchester for a trial as a 15-year-old, with the club keeping a close eye on him in the intervening years.
His progress in Chile was rapid and at just 17 he broke into the Universidad first-team, netting 11 times in 18 games during his maiden campaign. At international level, too, he boasts an astounding record: at the time of signing he’d netted 18 in 21 games for Chile’s U15, U17, U20 and U23 teams.
"He’s very quick and a good finisher," Sir Alex said upon his arrival at Old Trafford. "He’s strong and with great shoulders on him for a boy of 18.
"Angelo has made a tremendous impact on the game in his short career so far. His pace is a great asset and he reads the game really well for someone of such a young age.

All United fans will remember where they were when news broke that a deal had been agreed with Arsenal to bring Robin van Persie to Old Trafford and he put pen-to-paper on Friday 17 August 2012, and no Red will ever forget the incredible campaign that followed.
A year after scooping the PFA Player of the Year and the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year prizes after a fabulous season with the Gunners, United's no.20 was picking up his first title winners' medal having played a huge part in securing, rather aptly, title no.20 for the Reds.
The Dutchman also claimed the league's Golden Boot after
netting 26 times - he fired 30 goals overall, was voted the Sir Matt Busby Way Player of the Year and collected the Goal of Season accolade at United's annual awards dinner for his incredible volley against Aston Villa in April 2013, the second goal of his hat-trick in the game that clinched the Championship crown.
Born in Rotterdam, he really made his mark at local side Feyenoord and was chased by some of England's top clubs after a couple of seasons impressing on the left wing. Despite rumoured interest from Tottenham, Arsenal snapped him up for £2.75million in 2004 and he soon proved value for money.

Having worked his way through the ranks at United, Danny Welbeck established himself as a first-team regular of real talent in 2011/12 and he played an important role in helpinng the Reds scoop title no.20 in 2012/13.
The Manchester-born frontman joined United's youth set-up in summer 2007 and quickly caught the eye with his skilful, strong and pacy displays.
As a schoolboy, Welbeck played a prominent role in the Under-18s’ run to the 2006/07 FA Youth Cup final. He bagged nine goals in 14 starts for the Academy in 2007/08 and seven goals in 11 starts for the Reserves, including a superb hat-trick
against Manchester City, as the Reds' second string won both the Manchester and Lancashire Senior Cups.
His performances earned him a call-up to the first-team squad for United's winter trip to Saudi Arabia. Although he missed a last-minute penalty, Welbeck impressed in his 25-minute appearance against Al Hilal. Capable of playing out wide as well as up front, he was later named on the substitutes' bench for the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona and was part of the travelling party for the final in Moscow.
Welbeck made a bigger impression on the first team in the 2008/09 campaign.

Since arriving from Aston Villa in 2011, Ashley Young has almost seemlessly adapted to life at Old Trafford to become a formidable attacking weapon for Manchester United.
Although his first season in M16 ultimately ended in disappointment - with rivals Manchester City stealing the title on the final day - there were plenty of individual highlights for the England international, most notably a couple of doubles against Spurs and Arsenal.
A much-deserved England call-up for Euro 2012 soon followed and, after years of climbing the ladder, the tricky winger had
finally reached the higher echelons of football.
Of course, his career had been on an upward curve for some time. At Watford, where he was once on the brink of being released, Young became an integral player and eventually caught the interest of high-flying Aston Villa in 2007.
The fee, rising to almost £10million, was declared steep by those supposedly in the know - but it soon looked a bargain. Flourishing at Villa Park, he won the 2009 PFA Young Player of the Year award and was declared 'world class' by manager Martin O'Neill.
